Distribution Center Assistant Manager

Primary Purpose
The Assistant Distribution Center Manager supports the Distribution Center Manager in overseeing daily operations to ensure the efficient flow and control of merchandise and inventory. This role focuses on assisting in optimizing processes, maintaining accurate inventory management, and helping to control operating expenses, shrinkage, and costs. The Assistant Manager plays a key role in supervising and developing staff, fostering a high-performance culture, and ensuring operational efficiency while contributing to continuous improvement efforts to meet business goals and customer expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•Ensures operational procedures for verifying incoming and outgoing shipments, handling and disposition of materials, and maintaining up-to-date distribution center inventory are consistently followed.

•Oversees the opening of the Distribution Center each morning during regular hours of operation.

•Manages Work Orders, store and office transfer requests, and ensures accurate and timely completion of related paperwork.

•Prepares and organizes freight bills for incoming and outgoing shipments.

•Schedules store trucks and returns, ensuring all orders and trucks are efficiently loaded and unloaded daily.

•Assists in inspecting the physical condition of the Distribution Center and equipment according to the established maintenance schedule. Prepares work orders for necessary repairs and requisitions for replacement of equipment. Ensures the Distribution Center is organized and cleaned daily.

•Collaborates with office and store associates to coordinate distribution center activities with other departments, including sales, records control, and inventory management.

•Supervises Distribution Center staff, including the Floor Supervisor, and Warehouse Associates. Carries out supervisory responsibilities such as interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, evaluating performance, recognizing achievements, addressing concerns, and resolving employee issues, in compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
•Ensures compliance of associates with established security protocols, sales procedures, and record keeping practices.

•Assists in managing purchase orders and overseeing operations in the pricing area.

•Participates in processing defective merchandise as required.

•Provides support across other Distribution Center roles as needed and performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
•Minimum of an associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

•Must possess a valid driver’s license and insurance.

•Must have forklift operator certification.

•At least three years of experience in a warehouse management or supervisory capacity preferred.

•Strong understanding of inventory control, logistics, and warehouse processes.

•Familiarity with safety regulations and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.

•Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in overseeing daily operations and ensuring accuracy in inventory management.

•Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining operational efficiency and minimizing errors.

•Proficient in the use of warehouse management systems (WMS) and other relevant technology.
